Who are the Vietnam Veterans of America? Where can I get a copy of my military records? Do I need to subscribe to the web site? Who are the Vietnam Veterans of America? Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is the only national Vietnam veterans organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. VVA is organized as a not-for-profit corporation and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. VVA Chapter 885 meets at 801 Princess Street Wilmington, NC For a map and directions, click HERE Our scheduled monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. Refreshments are served before the meeting at 6:30. We also try to have an informal breakfast each Saturday morning around 8 AM (0800) at a local restaurant. Membership is open to U.S. armed force veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. To join, print a Membership Application or call our toll-free number, 800-VVA-1316 and ask for the Membership Department. A copy of your DD-214 is required with your membership application. Families, friends, supporters, and veterans of other eras can join the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America and receive the same benefits, including a subscription to The VVA Veteran. It depends on what tasks you wish to accomplish or what information you wish to obtain from the site. Most news content is available to anyone who visits the site. If, on the other hand, you are an active member of VVA-885, you will granted access to the member sections of the site when requested. With this access you will be able to submit articles and web links, update your member profile as well as be able to view other member profiles and participate in chapter news that is not available to the general public.
