Who are the Vietnam Veterans of America?

Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is the only national Vietnam veterans organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. VVA is organized as a not-for-profit corporation and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Service Code.

VVA'S FOUNDING PRINCIPLE
"Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another."

GOALS
VVA's goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans, to create a new identity for this generation of veterans, and to change public perception of Vietnam veterans.

When do you meet?

Our scheduled monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. Refreshments are served before the meeting at 6:30.

We also try to have an informal breakfast each Saturday morning around 8 AM (0800) at a local restaurant. Please check the events calendar on the front page for the location.

Please check the chapter calendar for any changes to the meeting times or dates.

How can I join?

Membership is open to U.S. armed force veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975.

To join, print a Membership Application or call our toll-free number, 800-VVA-1316 and ask for the Membership Department. A copy of your DD-214 is required with your membership application.

Please specify that you wish to become a member of Chapter 885!

Families, friends, supporters, and veterans of other eras can join the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America and receive the same benefits, including a subscription to The VVA Veteran.

Do I need to subscribe to the web site?

It depends on what tasks you wish to accomplish or what information you wish to obtain from the site.

Most news content is available to anyone who visits the site.

If, on the other hand, you are an active member of VVA-885, you will granted access to the member sections of the site when requested.

With this access you will be able to submit articles and web links, update your member profile as well as be able to view other member profiles and participate in chapter news that is not available to the general public.

If you need more immediate assistance from our chapter, please call our VVA-885 Hotline at (910)362-2726 or (877)594-9596 if you are calling from outside the Wilmington, NC area.

After you leave your message, a member will be paged and will respond to the call with the percieved priority of the messag, in the order in which it was received. Please make sure you speak clearly and leave appropriate call-back information.
